Where does the time go!  The season has begun here at RCR with activities every day.  Paul enjoys going to Woodmere in Venice for more table tennis and works out at the Venice gym in between.  Now we are packing for our Thanksgiving trek to family.  We enjoy the chance to see everyone all at once over the holidays.  Must get better at keeping this blog up to date...

Happy Anniversary

Tomorrow will be our 44th anniversary; our family was at this wedding; we eloped the first time.  We're celebrating with hot dogs; we have both been influenced by the commercials...  Our summer projects are nearing completion.  We probably won't get to Florida's east coast to visit family as often now.  Our relaxing summer is about to end as we begin preparing for a variety of activities including Senior Games.  We are beginning our 7th season at RCR; this is getting close to the longest we've stayed in one spot since we married...  Yes, we lived in Tallahassee 17 years but in three different locations.

Autumnal Equinox

Hope you all are having a great day.  We've been busy - just taking care of our homes.  Paul is preparing dinner now.  It's been a beautiful day but I think we'll have rain later - as it rained yesterday evening also.  Paul scrubbed lovebugs off Cruiser and exercised before his haircut.  After today the days become shorter.

Celebrated Paul's birthday a day late at "Rise of Planet of the Apes" It was engaging and well-done. We are both still recovering from the sneezes and coughs of a cold. We will feel better soon. An active thunderstorm came through late this afternoon to care for our lawns and flowers. Now there is a pretty sunset.

Must post pics of Costa Rica - it was an excellent first week of Sept!

We're returning from a week in Tallahassee to visit with Rachel, visit friends, and take care of the yearly doctor appointments. Will write more later as we are busy watching UF Gators beat Tennessee Vols - so far. Then must see the FSU Seminoles take on the Oklahoma Sooners. Oh yes, Paul will be busy for several days cleaning the love bugs off Cruiser and GimyC truck! TTYL.

Red Cross

We had 15 residents meet at the Clubhouse to hear about the Red Cross updates for evacuation. It seems there is more concern about storm surge so the list has changed. Gave Paul a haircut today; he's so cute. We're looking forward to a trip to Costa Rica. Haven't had rain in a few days so Paul has been busy watering.

Nana's Birthday

Spent the week on Florida's east coast visiting, shopping, and sharing with both our moms. Each evening I wrote a blurb on facebook - easy to do that on the iPad; not so easy to post to blog from iPad. Big event was lunch at Olive Garden with Mom, Dave, Ellen, Lucille, and Dorothy then back to mom's to share cake and ice cream with the neighbors - six of them came to celebrate mom's 89th. Mom was proud that she prepared both the white and devil's food cakes. It was fun to share apps with Ellen on her iPhone. On Monday, mom and I attended our first Lantana Town Council meeting with brother Dave, the mayor, presiding. Sad that it is a four+ hour drive to the other coast. Will try to be more diligent with postings.

Skirt on slides

Paul trimmed the grass and cleaned up the yard while I put up mail. After lunch we took our supplies and headed to the Rec Hall. Yep, we measured, cut, stapled and finished the 205" skirt for the kitchen/game room slide. It looks great. Most interesting was the fact that it was too long to just bring over in the golf cart so - with one end through the front window and Paul holding on to the other end, Regina slowly drove through the park models, across the bridge, and to the kitchen slide. We do good work! Sewer hose hides behind the skirt and when Paul gets a longer water hose that will go behind the skirt, too. He's so creative!

Here's a picture of the yard a few weeks ago. Also, the orchid still has blooms. Feeling much better today. Set up a meeting with Red Cross representative for anyone who is at RCR on Aug. 28 regarding the new evacuation procedures of June 2011. Hurricane season is most active during Sept. and October. Dinner smells really good: sweet potatoes, sauted/roasted vegetables, salad, and pork chops. Paul is sooo good to me. Today was a 2-hour exercise in the am and 1/2 hour pm sweat on the stepper; he is in great shape and the exercise room really helps. I did the laundry and worked on calendars - no physical exercise except for walking/riding the bike to the office and back. We've had several soft downpours today and it is cloudy again; saves watering the plants and grass.

Not a good day. My eyes started watering yesterday; no sleep last night. Eye doctor prescribed medication this morning - feeling better but can't wear contacts for a few days. Leaving for a visit with moms on Monday morning; great doctor will check eyes on Sunday afternoon! Paul is at Woodmere table tennis - he enjoys the play there. Sweet Bay is on the way home so he picks up his favorite Hazelnut Bolthouse. More later.

Skirt for dining slide

Our extra task today was making a skirt for the dining slide. We are accomplishing many projects this summer! And Paul keeps thinking of more. Sigh. It is good, though. Made several Activities Director phone calls today and updated calendars. Keeping busy.

We've enjoyed a busy week. Paul feasted on the summer salad at Crispers while Linda and I got caught up on more Latin news last Saturday. The school year is starting - and it gets more difficult to find a time to meet. No luck at bingo tonight; even Karen didn't win and she's usually lucky. Finished cleaning and labeling mailboxes up to 421. Will complete the task in September. Mundane jobs of defrosting freezer, dumping tanks, shopping and laundry, are interspersed with exercise on treadmill or stepper. Paul is more serious with weights, too. Maintenance is very busy trying to keep up with mowing. The clouds opened up just before dawn today; everything is green and growing. Returning from Walmart around 3 pm today, I watched the rain move up US 41; by the time I reached Laurel Rd. there was no rain. Gotta love this Florida weather!

Cowboys and Aliens

Today has been busy. As usual - mornings Regina puts up mail and Paul exercises. Regina was also fitted for new contacts and Paul picked up his prescription glasses. Then we thoroughly enjoyed Cowboys and Aliens on the big screen followed by our "breakfast" dinner at Denny's. Regina was lucky enough to win the last game at Elk's bingo even though she shared the pot; $22 is better than nothing. Weather-wise it was a rainy day off and on; puddles on the roads; flowers and grass is growing. Gonna try to keep posting here.

Day-Night Shades

Ah, the joy of restringing day-night shades! The living room 6' shade was restrung today. We've done the shade over the couch, the shade at the dining table, and one of the narrower ones, too. Getting pretty good at this - and it sure helps to spread the shade on a large rec hall table. The bedroom shade is starting to fray - that will be next. We have great directions you can borrow. Maybe we should go into the business.

Happy Independence Day

Fourth of July: 235 years ago the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence. Another busy holiday weekend at RCR with thunderstorms Friday night, rain Sat and Sun nights; first real rain all summer!

Memorial Day Weekend

Watching the Indy 500; working on directory cover; talking to mom; enjoying the day. Paul has moved Cruiser to storage and is watering plants. Nice lazy day at a busy RV park.

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Nice weekend. A line of thunderstorms came through about 3:30 pm Saturday - bringing an inch of rain, lightning, thunder, and wind. Electricity was off just over an hour. A few rumbles during the night but today has been beautiful and sunny. Dinner at Mi Pueblo was good, too.

Mother's Day

Just back from the east coast and a visit with our moms. Enjoyed lunch with almost everyone at Longhorn; Dave and Pam had to attend a wedding. Mom K. is moving into her new apt. this weekend. Met Angie today, too. Met up with many love bugs on the way over and the way back. Paul is very diligent about washing them off to save the paint. Hope you all are having a great day.

Monday, May 2, 2011

Public enemy #1, Bin Laden, has been killed by Navy seals. Bin Laden buried at North Arabian Sea. It has been an interesting news day. Two hour root canal for Paul today; the root was longer than usual according to dentist. We are planning our summer trips, too.

MAY DAY

Happy May 1st to everyone. Spring is definitely here - feels more like summer during the day but we are still having cool mornings. It's pretty quiet here as most seasonal residents have left; the ones still here have some kind of medical need to stay a bit longer. And that's why we're here for the summer. Planning some side trips and visits to moms, kid, and friends. Enjoy your May Day!

HAPPY EASTER

Hope you have had a wonderful day. We've enjoyed a busy season and are looking forward to a busy summer. Plan to make more postings! Ya'll take care now.
